Teletype Model 28 ASR

Every Telegram you send is typed on a restored Teletype machine — the same electro-mechanical equipment used to type Telegrams in the 1950s and 1960s.  Built to run 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and still doing exactly that.

The Model 28 is perhaps the most iconic Teletype ever made, which is why it's featured here.  We also use the Model 35 and other restored machines from our collection — each one maintained, oiled, and ready to type your message one keystroke at a time.

This Model 28 Automatic Send-Receive Teletype is in our typing facility.  It cost $2,500 in 1969, more than $20,000 in today's dollars.

We use restored Teletypes machines to print all of our Telegrams.  Why?  We find them facinating as the Teletype Corporation took their mechanical designs to incredible limits.  It also helps that they were built to last.  Every piece of steel is nickel plated, and if they are kept properly oiled and greased, they will continue to run.  Even though the machines we use are all 60+ years old, they will continue to function decades into the future.
